Why I invested in a copywriting course for my online business
Copywriting is one of those things that gets easily overlooked when it comes to putting your website together. It’s also something that not a lot of people know how it works (what I mean by this is the psychology behind it) and how important it is.
I’m guilty of having overlooked my website copy, hence why I ended up investing in a copywriting course. To say the least, overlooking my website copy was definitely a learning experience.
Besides designing your website and making it look gorgeous and user-friendly, there’s copywriting which is equally important. When I first created my website, I totally winged my web copy. I *thought* I knew what I was doing but I was honestly so far from it. There’s so much that goes into copywriting than people actually realize.
I honestly dreaded writing my web copy because I’ve never considered myself to be a strong writer but that doesn’t stop me, and it shouldn’t stop you either.
After a couple months in business I decided that I would do something about my website copy. So, last November I decided to invest in Ashlyn Writes Copywriting for Creatives course. I had been eyeing this course for a while as I had read one of Paige Brunton’s blog posts about her talking about this course and how beneficial she found it to be.
Some of you may be asking, why would you invest in a course and have to do all the work yourself instead of just investing IN a copywriter? Well, I have multiple reasons why I decided to put my hard-earned money on a copywriting course.
I wanted to learn what copywriting truly was and I wanted to understand it.
I wanted to write the copy on my own because there’s really no one else that knows my business as well as I do.
I knew that in the future I would be offering other services like my Squarespace Templates and I have future plans to offer courses as well and I would rather save my money and learn how to write the copy myself instead of hiring a copywriter every time I launched a new product or service.
Taking this course was no easy feat, it wasn’t one of those courses you could just breeze through. Ashlyn does an excellent job getting you to dig deep in who you are and what you stand for (finding your brand voice), who your clients are and what YOU can do for them, and then finally giving you the formula to write your conversion website copy.
This course definitely requires work to be put in and lots of deep thinking into your business. So deep that I actually ended up changing my business name😂. Ok to be fair I was already thinking of changing my business name and taking this course 100% solidified it.
Was the investment worth it?
Absolutely. It was 100% worth my time and the money.
If you don’t have the time to be taking a course right now but you know you need to do something about your web copy, I would highly suggest you should work with a copywriter to get your copy doing what it’s supposed to do – ultimately convert your site visitors into clients.
If you’re new in business, it can get hard to invest in a copywriter or a copywriting course (Ashlyn does offer payment plans for those that are interested). I completely understand that because I was in your shoes. There’s so much help on the internet of how to write your web copy so do some research if none of these are options at the moment. Down the line I would highly suggest you keep this on your ‘must do’ business investments.
