As an online business owner many of my friends and family assume that everything is perfect. Well, I’m here to tell you that it’s anything but perfect. As a matter of fact running an online business can be detrimental to your well-being if you allow it to be. I’m here to shed some light on the reality of running your online business and how this journey has been for me.

When I first started I was so ecstatic to start my own business, I mean of course I was! I had just quit my miserable sales job so pursuing my dreams was a 100% upgrade. I was so motivated to crush it and show the world what I was capable of. I started out with the basics; making sure that my business was being seen in different social platforms and that I was reaching all of my audience. Once I got that under my belt, it was like magic, inquiries started coming in. From constantly posting on social media, as well as from family and friends. I thought to myself, well this isn’t that hard.

If you know what an inquiry is you know that it’s just that, someone that is inquiring about your services, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they will turn into clients. I quickly learned that more than half of those inquiries didn’t convert into clients whether it was because it wasn’t a fit, budget was not in line with my packages or for other reasons. It’s hard when you receive countless inquiries and get your hopes up for it to turn into nothing. I feel like after several of those instances you start losing motivation. You start to question your abilities and whether this life that you imagined is actually possible. Running an online business or any business for that matter, is not easy. It’s hard work and a constant struggle to keep your head above water, perseverance and commitment and your will to not give up will allow you to succeed. I mean, if it were easy to start your own business everyone would do it, right?

These past few months have not been the easiest for me and staying motivated is a constant struggle but surrounding yourself with people that motivate you or are going through the same thing can help a lot. Something else that has helped ignite my motivation once again is going to the gym as funny as it sounds it makes me feel accomplished and creates a routine for me. I fell off the wagon for a little bit and I realized that I wasn’t using my time wisely. If you’re not using your time wisely how do you expect to ever get any clients? Something I’ve realized is that creating a routine for yourself and sticking to it will help you keep your head above water and allow you to stay motivated. It’s still hard when you feel like you’ve been doing everything (emphasis on the feel) and nothing is happening. There’s always something else that you can do different, new ideas that you could come up with but staying focused and committed will allow you to succeed.

I’ve been brainstorming new ideas on how I could possibly get more clients and need to take them into action. I’ve also realized that it’s summer and many people are well, on vacation duh! So I’m taking that into consideration and making sure that I’m not so hard on myself. It’s not easy but if you really want it you will do anything to make it work for you.

I wanted to write this blog post to serve some realness in the life as an online entrepreneur. It’s not easy but it’s 100% worth it to me and I will keep pushing until I succeed. If you are struggling to stay afloat don’t give up on your dreams you got this! There’s a ton of online communities that will help ignite that motivation once again and remind you why you did this. I’m also all ears, I can’t tell you how many amazing online entrepreneurs I’ve met who are going through the exact same thing.
