The four things I do to stay aligned with my business goals
With all the things that come with being your own boss sometimes it can be hard to have a clear picture of what you want and how you’re going to get it. In my almost first year as a business owner I’ve learned so much along the way. I truly do see this first year as a year of learning and growing. I had no idea what I was doing (which is ok!) but through trial and error I started implementing these little, or should I say big things that really shifted my mindset for the better and that’s when I started to feel more connected with my business, where I wanted to take it and how I was going to do it.
1. Goal Setting
One of the first things that people tell you (or that you see) is to set some goals for yourself. I always thought I was setting goals for myself but in reality, they were lost somewhere in the abyss waiting for me to write them down and actually believe in them.
What did I want to accomplish in my biz and in my personal life?
I never wrote down my goals, which was mistake #1. I was just getting by, day by day without any clear goals in mind of what I wanted to do for my biz. Now that I look back at it, I clearly was just doing the bare minimum and waiting until clients reached out to me. Big no, no.
Once I wrote down my goals, I started to feel more aligned with the direction I wanted to take my business in.
I was very clear and detailed of what my goals were, from how many email subscribers I wanted to gain by the end of the year, to how much money I wanted to make for the next six months.
Having your goals in written form allows you to plan and execute them accordingly. It also allows you plan accordingly by brainstorming and really calculating what it is that you need to do to get to where you want to be.
Affirmations what? What is this woo-ha stuff you speak of? Trust me I was one of those. I thought affirmations was such a silly idea to do.
You’re telling me that by chanting to the universe that I want to become a millionaire I’ll become one? Ehh, not exactly. I wish that’s how it worked but that’s not the case.
Affirmations are a great way to train your mind to believe in what you want to achieve and the success you want to have.
It’s for you to start BELIEVING in yourself and actually taking the right steps to get there. I also do truly believe in the energy of the universe sorry for the woo-ha but it’s true. That whatever energy you put out will reciprocate to you.
You have some big goals for yourself? Say it out loud, chant it, but most importantly write it down where you can see it right when you wake up and before you go to bed. You’ll start to see a shift in your mindset and you really will start believing it.
I want to reiterate that you must take the right steps towards those goals in order for your affirmations to come to life. They won’t come to life overnight, you gotta work for them. With the brainstorming you’ve carefully done in step one to have a clear understanding of how you’re going to achieve your goals along with solid affirmations, will keep you aligned and on track with your business goals.
Try it out, the power of affirmations is truly incredible.
It hasn’t been that long since I started meditating but I can truly see a difference in how it’s helped me stay aligned with my business goals and how it’s truly helped ease my mind.
I’m an overthinker. That’s just who I am. If you don’t give me an answer, I’ll come up with ten. I would also take way too long making decisions that I sometimes I didn’t make one at all. And then if I would make a decision, I would overthink about my decision 🤯. It was a very bad circle of unproductiveness (is that a word?).
But ever since I started meditating, I started seeing how I started to overthink less, and how it was taking me less time to make decisions.
As a sole business owner you have to make ALL the decisions, and not being able to make them was hurting my business and my productivity.
Meditation allowed me to clear my mind and focus my attention to the important stuff. So now every time I wake up, I meditate for 10 minutes. I can’t say I’ve mastered meditation, but I can finally feel my mind relax and I’m more aware of my thoughts and why I’m feeling the way I feel per se.
I wrote a blog post about why you should have a morning routine and explained why meditation should be part of it.
Or should I say listening? I couldn’t get myself to pick a book up if my life depended on it so without further ado thank you audible for sparking up my interest in reading 🙌🏼.
I know reading books might seem more for self-improvement but if you’re improving yourself wouldn’t that improve your business too? Ehh gotcha!
I’ve gotten so so many tips for my personal life and business through reading books. I’ve been able to soak up so much knowledge that I probably wouldn’t have gotten otherwise!
Reading books is a great way to develop your mind and to encourage growth as a person and for your business. Reading helps you communicate better and as an entrepreneur you should constantly be feeding your mind and learning.
You shouldn’t consider to be done with education after graduating college you should seek outside knowledge to keep on growing and learning.
