Should you hire a web designer?
If you’re a business owner or creative entrepreneur who is looking to get their website designed, you probably know that creating your own website can go from dreamy to it being a total nightmare. You might be going the DIY route because you want to save money or because you have some knowledge of what it takes to design a website. I want to give the rest of you that really don’t have an idea of whether you should be hiring a web designer reasons why it’s imperative to get one.
1. You don’t know what it takes to design a website
There’s a whole process that us web designers have in order to design the website you’re dreaming about. It’s easy to cut corners and start designing a website but if you don’t have a clear picture of who you’re trying to reach and what emotions you want your website to exude or what the goal of your website is then you should consider hiring a web designer. I have all of my clients thoroughly explain their ideal client by filling out a questionnaire I provide for them. I then walk them through the process with very detailed questions that they might have otherwise missed or not thought about. It’s easy to underestimate just how much it takes to design a website. Especially with website platforms such as Squarespace many people underestimate that you still need to be able to put a coherent site together. Squarespace just makes it easy for those users that don’t necessarily know how to code so they alleviate that stress. Nonetheless, you still need to know how you want to design your website and what elements should be included.
2. You’re not tech savvy
If you’re more of an analytical person than a creative, you should consider hiring a web designer to take over the reins of your website. Not everyone is born equally tech savvy and that’s completely fine, that doesn’t mean you don’t deserve to have a beautifully designed website. If the thought of designing a website makes you want to pull your hair out, you should definitely be looking for a web designer that can take that stress off your hands. Designing a website requires you to know how to navigate the web platform and, in some cases, you might run into mishaps that aren’t that easy to solve by googling to find the solution.
3. You’re extremely busy
Designing a website is no easy task, it requires meticulous planning, patience, and an eye for design. If you’re finding yourself being way too busy to design your website, you should consider outsourcing that to the experts. You don’t want to rush your website just for the sake of having one, that is not the point! You need to think about the goal you want your website to achieve so instead of putting out a filler site give the web design experts the opportunity to create a meaningful site for your business. If you’re extremely busy leave the work for the experts and do what you love doing most, running your business!
4. You’re looking for customization
You might have an idea of what exactly you’re looking for in a website but it’s easy to overlook the difficulty of getting that customization in your website. For example, many of my clients get inspired by other people’s websites and sometimes ask me if I could add a particular element that they saw on that website. It’s easier said than done, even with user-friendly platforms like Squarespace it can still be hard to get certain customization for your website unless you use code.
There you have it, don’t rush on your website. In the long run you’ll be glad that you decided to hire a web designer for your business. Web designers have a process to create the vision you have in mind. Rushing to have your website done by cutting corners can be detrimental to your business because your website might not align with your mission and goals. If you are finding yourself needing a web designer, I’m here to help! I design meaningful websites for my clients through Squarespace.
