How I come up with blog ideas
If you constantly blog, you know that sometimes it can be a struggle to come up with relevant ideas. I want to write something that my audience will find valuable not just any nonsense so sometimes it takes me time to think about relevant blog ideas. I want to share my secrets into what I do in order to come up with ideas.
First of all, you have to know who your audience is, narrow your client avatar and really hone into knowing who they are, what they like, hobbies etc. Once you have a good grip on who your audience is you’ll be able to know what your niche is. This will greatly help you what type of information your audience finds valuable. Once you’ve determined who your audience is and your niche you can start coming up with great ideas!
I use Asana to write down Blog ideas, so I won’t forget and reference to that list when I’m getting ready to write a blog post! This is such a time saver because I already have a list ready of blog ideas I can write about!
1. Facebook Groups:
One of my favorite tool for brainstorming blog ideas is through Facebook groups. I have joined several Facebook groups where I know my audience lies in. Many times, the members will have questions regarding something I’m familiar with. Like for example: What do you prefer Squarespace or Wordpress (this is a blog within itself! Take a read at it here). It’s important to pay attention to questions being asked in Facebook Groups you’ve joined! I’ve gotten plenty of ideas through Facebook Groups. You’re probably wondering, “Erika, which Facebooks groups are you referring to?!” I want to share some of my favorite Facebook Groups with you, not only are they perfect for blog ideas, you might even find a client or two!
Here they are:
The Bucketlist Bombshells This group has been a true gem. It’s full of up and coming female entrepreneurs, you’ll be so inspired by the members of this group. It was started by two millennial women; Cassie and Shay who help other female entrepreneurs with their journey! Quick note, this group does require you to answer a few questions before joining.
The Intentional Entrepreneur: This group is also full of very inspirational women who often have questions about web design, branding, and the like. It’s a great resource for new blog ideas.
Savvy Business Owners: This is another one of my favorite groups! This is also where you can find amazing female entrepreneurs, get inspired and so much more! Can you tell who my audience is? 😅
I hope you are also able to find valuable information through these Facebook groups!
This one is not as fun as finding inspiration through Facebook Groups, but you know your audience the best, so you should sit down and really brainstorm what keeps your ideal client up at night. What are they struggling with? What would they find value in? Come up with ideas that you think they would benefit from.
Another great way to come up with blog ideas is a problem you were having, and you found the solution to! If you really think about it, if you were having trouble with something in particular what are the chances that someone else is having trouble with the same issue as well? *lightbulb went off* Make it a blog post! I guarantee someone out there will find it valuable as well.
Podcasts are gold. Besides learning valuable information, you can get plenty of ideas for blog posts! There is so much value in listening to podcasts and sometimes you might do your own take on a topic they discussed in a podcast, for example “How I structure my work week as an entrepreneur” this is easily something that you could do your own take on! Not everyone has the same structure and sharing your structure might become valuable to someone else!
Some of my favorite podcasts are:
You get the idea! These are some of my favorite podcasts. I also wrote a blog post about the top 5 must listen podcasts for women entrepreneurs which goes more into depth on what each one is about! Read here.
The same goes with books! Feeding your mind to new ideas is something that I’ve found helpful when thinking about blog ideas. There’s so much knowledge that is learned from books that you are able to feed off of and spread the knowledge to others! Of course, I am not saying completely copy the concept of the book. Do your own take on something you learned from the book or what resonated with you the most. There’s so many ways to write an excellent blog post from a book you’ve read, don’t forget to give credit to the rightful owners and spread the knowledge by sharing the book with your audience!
I hope this blog post was helpful to some of you looking for ways to come up with fresh new blog post ideas. The most important part is really honing down on your niche first then utilizing these tools to be able to come up with great blog post ideas! Good luck!
