Easy hack to create a customized Instagram bio link through Squarespace!
Have you ever seen those link.tree links on peoples Instagram bios? You know the ones that allow you to link several pages of your website or essentially whatever your heart desires on there? As a small business owner one of the biggest annoyances that Instagram has is how difficult they make it to link several pages at once! It’s nearly impossible to get your users who could be potential buyers clicking on the link you want them to click. If you’ve heard of link.tree you know that it’s a free tool that allows you to link several pages at once. I used it for about a month before I realized that I wasn’t benefitting from users clicking on that link because Squarespace wouldn’t be able to track the web traffic. Instead I found a little workaround for those of you who use Squarespace.
Below I will be teaching you the step by step process on how to create your very own customized bio link for Instagram using Squarespace pages.
Go to Pages on Squarespace. Head over to the ‘Not Linked’ section and click the plus sign. Click on the Cover Page option. The reason why a Cover Page works is because if you try using a regular page your navigation and footer information will still be showing. With a Cover Page that information will not be available which will allow your users to focus on the links you have available.
Once you’re there you are able to change the Layout of your page. Squarespace offers many different layout options depending on what style you’re looking for. Don’t be intimidated by the titles of the layouts since you’re going to be able to customize the cover page to your liking. I just chose to leave it as is and use the ‘Landing Page’ layout.
Once you’ve chose the layout go ahead and click on Branding & Text. This allows you to upload your logo or leave it as text. You also have the option to add a headline and body text.
Next up is Media which allows you to add images or video to your page. I went with an image that matched perfectly with my brand.
Next is Action, this is a very important step because this is where you will be able to add the links to your page.
I chose Navigation since it gives me the option to add five links the button option only allows you to create two. I would have preferred to use the buttons instead of the navigation links because they are more of a “call to action” in my opinion. So, I found a little workaround to be able to mask those navigation links and make them look like buttons.
Use the code below in order to mask the navigation links and make them appear as buttons:
Go to Actions > choose Navigation > add your three or five links you need > then go to Configure the Cover Page (the gear) > choose advanced > add this code:
3. border-radius: 15px;
4. background: white;
5. padding: 15px;
6. width: 250px;
7. height: 25px;
10. position: relative;
11. left: auto;
If you wish to change the background of the button you can do so by either typing in a color or hex code of your choice where it says: “background: white”
Add the links that you feel are the most important for your business and for potential clients to see. Under ‘Action’ you also have the option to add a form or newsletter signup button.
Style. The cover page has styling options within the page, there you will be able to adjust fonts, colors, and sizes.
Add the link to your Instagram bio and start seeing if you’re traffic is coming from Instagram!
Voila! With this easy six step process you should be able to have a beautiful customized link page!
I hope this easy six step process helped many of you wondering how you could take advantage of the one bio link you’re allowed to have on your Instagram bio and make it unique to your brand and style. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
