How to choose the right business name

How to choose the right business name by EG Media Co. | Business tips, business name, online business owner, digital nomad life, web designer, digital marketing agency

I remember when I was just starting out with my online business I would get stuck and feel like I couldn’t move forward because I couldn’t think of the perfect name! I can’t even tell you how many hours I spent going back and forth with names, switching words up, asking for advice, etc. It was so frustrating trying to figure out what you’re going to name your business and yes, it is a very important decision because of all the legalities behind it of having to register your business. Ugh, I can already feel the headache just thinking about that stuff! Plus of course you want to make sure it connects with your ideal audience and represents you, the business owner in a positive way.

I wanted to write this post for those of you struggling to find the right business name or for those that don’t even know where to start. It can be overwhelming at times, but I hope my advice is helpful to some of you! Let’s get started.

1. Using your name

Using your name as part of your business name is something that many people consider. It’s easy and it can make the process of coming up with a business name a lot smoother. For example, I myself used my first and last name initials as part of my business name for EG Media Co. I went for my initials because I definitely felt like it represented me and who I am, and I am completely satisfied with my choice.

Be cautious if you are considering using your name I know there might be legal implications depending on where you reside.

2. Find inspiration

When I was looking into my business name I was thinking of things that inspired me and were still somehow connected with the direction I was taking my online business. I’m multi-passionate and something that inspires me is traveling as well as beauty, so I would spend time on Google finding words related to those industries. People grow and the things that inspire you now might change down the road, so be careful to not be so specific with the name you chose.

3. Something or someone that means a lot to you

For example, it might be someone like a family member or your pet or a place that is close to your heart. I have a dog named Sparrow and I was considered incorporating that into my business name. I also love spending time by the beach (I’m from San Diego) and so I was trying to incorporate something related to that.

Play around with words, mix and match, ask around and get advice from friends and family. You got this! It might be a little overwhelming at but when it’s the perfect name you’ll automatically know! Good luck on your quest to finding the perfect business name!
