How much money you’ll need to build your website on Squarespace and what’s included in their Business Plan
I get this question asked all the time when I’m working with clients and with every right! If I was also working with a web designer I would ask how much of an investment Squarespace is. I will say that I’m a little biased because I do build websites using Squarespace, but I absolutely love it for several reasons. It’s extremely user friendly, they have an amazing customer support and they have premade templates that are easily customizable.
There are several options that you have when it comes to purchasing a Squarespace plan. With most online services out there if you pay the year in advance you’ll most likely qualify for a discount. Same goes for Squarespace, if you pay for the full year you’re eligible for a discount. In my opinion, paying for the full year is a smart decision because you’ll be getting the biggest bang for your buck. There are also a couple of perks that come along with paying the full year upfront that aren’t offered if you pay month to month.
That perk that I’m talking about is something that you’ll 100% need; your domain name. Squarespace offers you a free custom domain name for the first year with an annual purchase. That’s such a steal because you’re going to need a domain if you plan on getting a website.
If you’re not impressed by this perk don’t worry more discounts to come below! 😉
Don’t worry if you’ve already purchased a domain name through another domain name provider, that’s completely fine. You’ll still be able to either connect or transfer your domain name through Squarespace. Don’t let this set you back from using Squarespace as the designated home for your business’s website, everything is possible!
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE SQUARESPACE BUSINESS PLAN?
1. Unlimited Pages, Bandwidth & Storage
This is pretty self-explanatory but let me just explain why this is a great benefit about the Squarespace Business Plan. There are many other web hosting platforms out there that limit the amount of storage you’re allowed to use and if you surpass the capacity you will be bound to waste more of your hard-earned money to get more storage.
2. Mobile-Optimized Website
This holds true to some extent, as a web designer I don’t just use one of their premade templates and upload all of my client’s content on there. I customize each and every one of my client’s websites according to the style they’re going for and so forth. With that said, sometimes the mobile version will look a little off. In that case some custom CSS here and there would be required to get it back to being mobile-optimized. With that said if you are just looking to drag and drop your content to one of the premade templates you won’t have any problems having your website be mobile-optimized.
3. Advanced Website Metrics
This is something that I really like about Squarespace. With this you’ll be able to track website visits, traffic sources, popular content and much more. I recently wrote a blog post detailing everything you need to know about your Squarespace Analytics, read it here.
4. SSL Security Included
With the internet becoming an avenue for criminals to easily scam people it’s no doubt that you should also take precautions to reassure your visitors that they are safe browsing through your website. Squarespace automatically creates free SSL certificates, so you don’t have to worry about it. Your visitors will be able to see a green secure lock icon next to your URL when browsing your website.
5. 24/7 Customer Support
Not only is Squarespace known for their great customer support. You can also find a plethora of information related to the features and the capabilities of using Squarespace.
6. Professional Email From Google
This is something that you should definitely take advantage of. As a Squarespace member you’re qualified to receive one professional Gmail and G Suite account, free for the first year. Not only does this make your business look extremely professional it’s extremely convenient and secure.
7. $100 Google Ads Credit
Squarespace Business Plans offer $100 off Google Ads Credit when you spend $25. The bad thing about this is that it is only valid for US and Canadian members.
8. Promotional Pop-Ups
Pop-ups are a great way to gain your website visitors attention. With this benefit that is offered in the Business Plan you’ll be able to collect emails, advertise a promotion and so forth. You also have the ability to control the timing and display rules of your pop-up.
9. Fully Integrated E-Commerce
With the Business Plan you’ll still be able to have common functions of an e-commerce website such as selling physical goods, digital goods and services. Although this may be perfect for some there are many limitations so if you’re in need of an e-commerce website I would consider one of Squarespace Commerce plans for online stores.
10. Sell Unlimited Products and Accept Donations
I would consider this to be an indifferent benefit offered by Squarespace. There really is no wow factor to this “benefit” in my opinion.
11. 3% Transaction Fees
This is more of a curse than a blessing. If you’re looking to open an online store I would 100% recommend considering one of Squarespace Commerce plans as those do not impose a 3% transaction fee only credit card fees will still apply.
12. Mobile Information Bar
Most people are browsing through websites through their mobile devices and Squarespace understands that. They give you the unique opportunity to put some of your most important information front and center. You’re able to include information such as your email, phone number or business hours.
As a web designer I feel like this is more of a huge benefit for me because I’m able to modify templates and create unique layouts using custom CSS. This allows me to customize my client’s websites that make them look different from the premade templates that Squarespace offers.
14. Premium Blocks and Integrations
There are some pretty neat integrations you’re able to do on Squarespace such as connecting a calendar, integrating Mailchimp, connecting Google Analytics and more.
15. Announcement Bar
Having the ability to add an announcement bar is extremely beneficial for your website. You’re allowed to announce a sale or promotion that will easily catch your visitors attention.
HOW MUCH IS THE SQUARESPACE BUSINESS PLAN?
