How I use Loom for my clients after the two week web launch
Loom have you heard of it? If you haven’t it’s a free screen and video recording software that you should be taking advantage of (no affiliate links whatsoever) it’s literally free! I have used it time and time again with my clients once I’m done with their two week Squarespace website.
One of the main reasons why I get hired by someone to do their website is because 1. They have no idea how to build a cohesive website that will look good or 2. They don’t have time and are too busy to take the project on themselves. Most of the time, I would say 80% of my clients hire me because they have no idea how to start a website. So it makes sense that after their 2 week website is over they’re still going to be lost on how to navigate their website. So, part of great customer service and something that every designer should be doing after they’ve completed their website is showing their clients how to navigate their website. Yes, you can get on Skype with them and show them around the website but do you think they’re really going to retain half of the stuff you just went through? No! Fun fact: humans retain about 30-40% of what we see and hear. So with that said it’s very important to find an alternative way to facilitate the process of showing your clients how to navigate their website.
With trial and error I learned what works best for my clients and me and Loom has honestly changed the way I communicate with my clients if they have any questions. With Loom you’re easily able to video record your screen and show your clients how to navigate their website. I use Chrome so it’s extremely easy to add the Loom chrome extension to your web browser. Don’t know how to write a blog post on Squarespace? No problem! I open up my laptop click on the Loom extension in the top right corner.
I usually use the settings “Screen” and “current tab.” Click start recording and you should are ready to get started.
It’s extremely easy to use and super efficient. Once you’re done recording you can click on “Stop Recording” and share the link with your clients.
My process once the two weeks have finished is that I will Skype Call my clients and activate Loom while we are both on the call that way it’s efficient for both of you, 1. It allows your clients to ask questions and 2. It allows you to explain how to navigate their website and clarify any confusion they might have. Once you’re done recording you can easily send them the Loom link for them to be able to use as reference if a question were to pop up in the future.
